When the city is the star: the latest cultural proposition from the Eurostars Anglí
May 23, 2008
Cities in which we live. We work in. We sense. Very seldom does it happen, but cities can pass from being a mere scenario to coming to the front line of our gaze. Of our vision. However, the Eurostars Anglí 4* (Barcelona), presents, from 20 May to 4 de July, an exhibition by Valentina Adorni (Parma, Italy, 1977); a display included in the ‘Urban Landscapes’ trilogy: three exhibitions focused on the city and the relationship with its inhabitants, which the hotel will be housing through until next September.
The exhibition by Valentina Adorni consists of a series of photographs in which the artist attempts to research the “difficult relationship that exists between photography and reality”. For Adorni, who portrays apparently mundane city scenes, the art of photography has lost – almost since its birth – its role as the faithful reflection of reality, without any subjectivity. “The objective I have always been pursuing throughout my professional career, is to investigate the relationship between the images and the context they portray, and I achieve a positive result when the sentiments deployed in the making of the image are captured by the public “.
Adorni asserts that her work takes inspiration from various sources, such as contemporary art, literature, the cinema or music. And she adds that, “those days that appear to be useless can divulge a large amount of ideas and new energy”.
