The Eurostars Anglí presents ‘aesthetic accidents’ by Markus Haub
March 12, 2008
The Eurostars Anglí 4* (Barcelona) presents, from 10 March to 30 April, an exhibition by Markus Haub (Germany, 1972). The Haub exhibition is the first part of a trilogy, ‘Urban Landscapes’. Three exhibitions focused on the city and the relationships amongst its inhabitants which will fill the exhibition space at the Eurostars Angli until next September. Haub inaugurates this trilogy and will be followed by Valentina Adorni and Marc Goodwin, whose paintings will be displayed from 10 May to 10 June and from 15 July to 1 September, respectively. The Markus Haub show is composed of a series of canvases which the artist describes as a mixture of photography, painting and computerized illustration. “In my paintings there is a digital part that is completely controlled, which is unchangeable, while on the manual side, the pictorial angle, so many improvised things happen”, affirms Haub. “It is about little accidents between the materials used in the pictures, thanks to which something unique always emerges, something unrepeatable”, he adds. By means of these ‘aesthetic accidents’, Haub accomplishes the immortalising of concrete moments in reality, which he endows with his own personal vision, thanks to his paintbrush.
Haub purports that his work revolves around one sole theme: beauty. “My sources of inspiration emerge from all I see around me; beauty stems from architecture, from people’s faces, in short, from everywhere”, adds the German artist, now settled in Barcelona. The painter also reverts to the cinema for inspiration, his fetish being the actress and model, Milla Joyovich (‘Joan of Arc’, ‘The Fifth Element’).
Markus Haub’s work has played a leading role in several exhibitions. For instance, his work formed part of a collective exhibition in 2004 at the la Iguapop Gallery in Barcelona, while in 2007, he showed at the Lost&Found Festival in Barcelona and at the Trappes Gallery in Paris. Work by Haub has also been displayed in individual shows at the Galería Artefacto in Barcelona (2002), La Gauche Divine in Barcelona (2004), the Galería Complementart in Sitges (2007) or at the Barcelona Bonita Works, (2008).
