Jordi Güell, or the magnetic attraction of the abstract, arrives at the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel

July 18, 2008

If what is habitual becomes custom, the resulting surprise can be exciting. The inimitable Jordi Güell presents, from 15 July to 15 September, an exhibition in which the language of the abstract magnetizes through its power; through the passion it exudes. This is a proposition which can be viewed during this period at the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel in Barcelona.

Jordi Güell (Molins de Rei, Barcelona, 1973) displays a series of canvases where he superimposes textures and languages in collages based on materials that include paint, resins or even earth. Using those materials as a starting point, Güell superimposes bar codes or letters extracted from computerised combinations. Nature and computerisation, united in apparent visual chaos.

This supposed “breakaway” of Güell’s is inspired, nevertheless, by a far more ancient form of art. “Since I was very young, I always felt attracted by the flat colours of those Romanesque altar pieces”, he asserts. “It’s fascinating how in one same rectangle they superimposed two structures so diverse but yet, at the same time, so harmonious”, the painter explains.

Jordi Güell currently forms part of a selection of artists represented by the well-known firm, L&B. Throughout his artistic career, Güell has exhibited his work in the most prestigious locations, such as the Cervantes Institute or the Water Tower Place in Chicago, the DNA Gallery in Barcelona or the Conde Duque Contemporary Art Museum in Madrid.
