February 21, 2008
The Eurostars Gaudi Hotel (Barcelona) presents an exhibition by Mireia Cifuentes (Seu de Urgell, Lerida, 1966). The exhibition, which can be visited up to next 10 March, displays a dozen paintings, amongst which are works entitled Likan, Tree and Chaos. Mireia Cifuentes defines her work as “a constant play of colours and forms”. Finding inspiration in sources such as nature and the contrast between light and shade is how this artist from Lerida creates her paintings.
Focusing her work on the use of oils, acrylics and pastels, Cifuentes’ career began in 1990 when she commenced her training at the Sansivens Academy in Barcelona. Since then and over the following ten years, this painter has carried out a series of courses, workshops and seminars with artists Montserrat Valdés, Gloria Muñoz, José María Pinto or Teresa Llacer. In addition, Cifuentes also complemented her work in the field of sculpture at the Barcelona School of Arts and Crafts (2000-2002). With regard to her exhibitions, this Lerida artist had her debut in 1996 with a personal exhibition at the Sala AtriuM in Barcelona. Following this first show others materialised, such as the one organised at the Círculo Artístico de St. Lluc (Barcelona, 1999), another at the Centre Cultural Drassanes (Barcelona, 2003) or yet another at the Trebol BCN Art Gallery (Barcelona, 2007). As well as these displays, Cifuentes was selected as finalist for the Fundació Güell Prize (Barcelona, 1996) and was also the winner of the first edition of the Jove de St. Lluc Prize (Barcelona, 1998).
