Albrecht Von Wallenstein And His Era
February 4, 2008

The popular exhibit Albrecht Von Wallenstein And His Era explores the star-crossed life of the controversial general and politician known to the Czechs as Albrecht z Valdstejna. The image of Wallenstein that emerges bears striking resemblance to figures from today’s international headlines.
As a general in the service of Rudolf II, Wallenstein fought the Turks and Hungarian rebels before the outbreak of the Thirty Years’ War. His ambitious accumulation of power and wealth during the war earned him many enemies on both sides. He was later assassinated when the Emperor Ferdinand II suspected him of treason.
The exhibit, prolonged until 2 March, offers a remarkably fresh look at Thirty Years’ War and offers evidence of Wallenstein’s personal life as a lover, a financier, and a dilettante of architecture, art and astronomy.
