Cuando los porteños se daban aire

Cuando a Europa llega el calor, Buenos Aires se abriga, y cuando Europa combate el frío, los porteños se dan aire para aliviar de algún modo el calor asfixiante. Y esa es precisamente la excusa de la interesante y original exposición que ha abierto sus puertas en el Museo de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Bajo el título “Cuando los porteños se daban aire”, esta exposición nos explica cómo combatían el calor los habitantes de la capital argentina a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Los abanicos son sin duda los grandes protagonistas de esta muestra tan especial: los hay de multitud de formas, materiales, colores y tamaños, pero además se introduce al visitante en el enigmático y sugerente mundo del lenguaje de los abanicos. Por cierto, si una mujer junta sus manos mientras sujeta el abanico abierto, debe sentirse decepcionado: su mensaje es “Olvídame”. Si, en cambio, ella coloca el abanico cerca del corazón, le está diciendo: “Has ganado mi amor”.

Más allá de los abanicos y los mensajes criptados, la muestra incluye también todo tipo de ventiladores, frigoríficos y artilugios diversos que ayudaban a pasar mejor los húmedos y pegajosos veranos del Río de la Plata. Y, está claro, para combatir el calor, el mejor remedio siempre fue ir quitándose la ropa.

La exposición está abierta del 5 de marzo al 10 de abril en la Casa de los Querubines, sede del Museo de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (Defensa, 219).
